Readington River Buffalo Farm to host Red Dog Day on Sunday May 7 | Hunterdon Review News

TWP of READINGTON. – Readington River Buffalo Farm will host its annual Red Dog Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 7 at the farm at 937 County Route 523 in the Whitehouse Station section of the township.

Red Dog is a nickname for a newborn bison, and bison calves should be born in early spring, which makes May a great time to see them playing in the fields. They are born with red hair, much lighter than their mothers. They weigh only 40 to 45 pounds at birth, lighter than cow calves, as they are wild animals and must stand and walk quickly after birth.

The event will feature wagon rides, walking tours, food vendors including bison burgers, live music and more. There will also be plenty of craft vendors and activities for kids, like pony rides and more.

There will also be many educational providers from various agriculture-related departments willing to share their resources. The event will have environmental groups on hand to spread the word about how conservation and agriculture go hand in hand.

All are welcome to bring their families and friends to see the newborn calves and learn about all that Readington River Buffalo Farm does to make the farm as beautiful and healthy as possible.

The saloon will be open and serving adult beverages to benefit the New Jersey Agricultural Society. And buffalo burgers and hot dogs will cook, along with other food vendors.

Admission and parking for the Red Dog Days event is free.
